Notion's help docs say reuse the same chat to save usage. True only if the next question is actually related, since every message carries the full prior conversation with it. Drift across unrelated tasks in one session and it gets quietly more expensive with each message. Better habit: one chat, one job, start fresh the moment the work shifts.

Even within one real thread, the context window eventually gets so loaded with exploration and dead ends that continuing costs more than it should. Fix: a handoff step, where the AI summarizes what actually matters before you move on, and the next stretch of work starts from that summary instead of the full history.

A quieter feature helps too. Notion AI can run sub agents, barely talked about, but useful for research heavy tasks. Have it check six competitor pages in one session and all six ride along in context afterward. Delegate to sub agents instead, and only the useful takeaways come back, not the full pages.

Two more habits worth checking. Skills set to auto execute load their full description into every session regardless of relevance, and auto mode adds its own small tax just deciding which model to use. Turn both off and make the calls yourself.
